Boeing Machinists Approve New Contract, Ending Strike

The Boeing Mechanist strike came to a long-awaited end as union members voted to accept the most recent offer put forth by the company. While this offer includes a significant pay raise over the next several years but lacks pension benefits, many mechanists maintain that they will continue to advocate for their future if it means accepting for now. Boeing to Refund Lost Pay to Employees Furloughed During Machinists Strike

As a first step in reparations with employees, Boeing will refund pay lost to non-union workers furloughed during the strike. However, the company still plans to move forward with layoffs announced in October that will cut the workforce by 10%. Read more.

Spokane Valley sawmill facing thousands of dollars in fines for health, safety violations

Fox Lumber Sales, a Spokane Valley sawmill, faces over $126,000 in fines for health and safety violations, including hazardous sawdust accumulation and unprotected machinery. The company has had two fires since opening in January but plans to appeal the fines, arguing that the safety measures in place were adequate based on the previous operator’s standards. Read more.
