Anaheed Mobaraki

Anaheed Mobaraki is a proud Iranian-American and Marylander, and the first in her family to attend college and law school. She is a 3L at Columbia Law School where she is the recipient of the Richard Paul Richman Leadership Fellowship, the Venable LLP Public Interest Scholarship, and the Judge Iravani-Sani Public Interest Scholarship. Anaheed graduated from Yale University in 2021 with a B.A. in Political Science. During her undergraduate years, Anaheed dedicated her summers to interning with nonprofit organizations such as the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Virginia, the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, and Alliance for Justice. She became passionate about criminal justice through her coursework and her volunteer activities with the Connecticut Innocence Project and Mourning Our Losses. Anaheed has brought her passions with her to Columbia Law School. During her 1L year, Anaheed joined the Columbia Journal of Race and Law (CJRL) as a 1L Staff Editor and earned herself a 1L Representative position on First Generation Professionals (FGP). Anaheed’s dedication to public interest work and liberation efforts earned her a 2022 summer position with the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the District of Maryland. As a 2L, Anaheed worked as a Staff Editor with the Columbia Human Rights Law Review – Jailhouse Lawyers Manual and held several leadership positions including serving as the Public Interest Chair for Empowering Women of Color (EWOC). She was also the Membership Chair for First Generation Professionals and a year-long extern with the Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem (NDS). As a 3L, Anaheed joined the Criminal Defense Clinic in the Fall and will be working with NDS in the Spring as a Pro Bono Scholar.

Kayla Mathurin

I am Kayla Mathurin. I was born in Okinawa, Japan but I grew up in Tacoma, Washington. I am currently a Senior majoring in International Political Economy at Pitzer College. On campus, I work in the Office of the Dean of Faculty as a Student Assistant and in the Office of Student Success Initiatives as an Affinity Fellow. In addition to being a member of the Black Student Union and First-generation affinity groups, I am also a co-founder and president of the Law Society.

I will be attending Columbia Law School in the fall. There, I hope to apply to the dual degree program with Pantheon-Sorbonne-Paris 1, obtaining both my J.D. and M1, allowing me to practice law in both America and France. Although I do not have a set area of law I want to practice yet, I have grown a fond interest in both International/Comparative Law and Corporate, Business, and Transactional Law.

Daniel Youssef

Daniel is a sophomore at Northeastern University, majoring in psychology and business administration. As an aspiring human resources management professional, he is working on building a strong interdisciplinary foundation in management. He has gained experience in recruitment, onboarding, and employee relations. He enjoys reading and music, and was a member of the Handel and Haydn Society. He lives in Westborough, MA, with his parents and brother.
